Instead of an old quilt, consider buying one that incorporates chenille. Not only is it beautiful, but the texture is appealing to the touch. Part of the shabby chic style is a slight mis-match of items, so add a variety of throw pillows to the bed that are made of different fabrics, like cotton, chenille, velvet, even wool. Look for different shapes, too. Your wicker idea is a nice touch. You could also add a small area rug, again incorporating texture. As for the other color, I always ociate green, white and pink when I'm thinking of the shabby chic look.
