Sorry for your situation, it sounds very unfair, but not illegal, particularly in an "at-will" employment contract. Since they laid you off due to company restructuring, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits (although I am not sure if you've worked long enough to qualify). See if you can get in touch with the owner when he returns from his out of state trip and see if you can get your job back, or another job with the company if there are any available.
